Taking a break from traditional NFL analysis, I thought it would be fun to look at the Madden NFL 11 Ratings for the Jets and see how accurately the virtual players match up with their real-life counterparts.

For over 20 years, the Madden franchise has wowed gamers across many consoles, and the Madden 11 version for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 (sorry Wii, I love you, but Madden doesn’t) is sure to be a big hit again as it is almost every year.

One thing that Madden has never, ever featured before that it will in this year’s game is very exciting for Jets fans. For the first time in the history of the Madden franchise, the Jets are a top five ranked overall team, with an 89 overall rating that is fourth overall, behind only the Saints (92), Colts (91), and Ravens (90).

Another fun addition to the Madden 11 is a new attribute called Swagger, presented by Old Spice. That’s right, Swagger will have a numerical rating from 1-99 along side Speed, Awareness, Strength, and Overall among others.

Without further ado, let’s dive into these rankings and see how the Jets stack up in Madden NFL 11, which is in stores August 10th, with the demos hitting PS3 and Xbox on July 27th.

Marques Douglas was not exactly a household name on the Jets top-ranked defense last season, but he was an underrated defensive end who doesn’t light up the sack column but is a solid contributor to the running game.

Douglas, an 11-year veteran that the Jets seemed poised to let go like fellow ex-Jets contributors Thomas Jones, Alan Faneca and Kerry Rhodes, was signed today by the Miami Dolphins to a two-year deal.

However, it’s not out of the question that the Jets would have eventually brought him back.

The final four playoff teams are eligible today to sign free agent players. Look for the New York Jets to possibly sign veteran QB Mark Brunell to a contract today. Brunell will serve and Mark Sanchez’s back up.

The Jets had brought Brunell in for talks earlier this summer but were unable to sign him at that time. Brunell’s former team, the New Orleans Saints are expected to sign veteran journeyman QB Patrick Ramsey on Thursday as well.

New York Jets DT Kris Jenkins thought about retiring this offseason. It appears that head coach Rex Ryan was able to bring Jenkins back from the edge and play another season as Jenkins recovers from his second major knee surgery.

This offseason, Ryan put down a challenge in the spirit of the tv show, The Biggest Loser, and challenged Kris Jenkins and Damien Woody to a weight loss contest. Jenkins has always had to deal with weight issues while he’s played has undertaken a concerted effort to shed some pounds this offseason. In fact, Jenkins is now endorsing “The Cookie Diet”.

Jenkins has told the media that he is starting to get tired of playing football, but is looking forward to returning this season saying, “At this point. it’s all about that ring. That’s what’s left to play for”.

The New York Jets have signed second round draft selection OG Vladimir Ducasse. Ducasse, 6’4 330, is expected to replaced veteran guard Alan Faneca who is now in Arizona with the Cardinals. The Jets received some criticism over releasing Faneca this offseason and expecting a rookie to replace him in an offensive line which produced the best rushing attack in the league last season.

The deal is a 4 year contract with a reported 3.25 million and a 1 million dollar signing bonus.
